AL ABOUT INTERNET

Internet
-
A worldwide network of networks. It is also the network of networks that connects millions computers (called hosts). The Internet is the virtual space in which users send and receive email, login to remote computers (telnet), browse databases of information (gopher, World Wide Web, WAIS), and send and receive programs (ftp) contained on these computers.

Lan

-          A local area network (LAN) links computers in relatively close proximity in order to share files, printers, other resources, and online access. LANs are used at home and in business and can be either wired or wireless.

Wan
-
A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a network that spans a large geographical area, the most common example being the Internet. A WAN is contrasted to smaller local area networks (LANs).
-

Man
-
metropolitan area networks (MANs). LANs are home or office networks, while a MAN might encompass a campus or service residents of a city, such as in a citywide wireless or WiFi network.

www
-
An Internet-based system that enables an individual or a company to publish itself to the entire world, except to countries or locations that prohibit the free interchange of information. The major service on the Internet, the World Wide Web is the world's largest online shopping mall and the world's largest source of information, news and commentary.

http

-
is the set of rules for transferring files (text, graphic images, sound, video, and other multimedia files) on the World Wide Web.
-          concepts include (as the Hypertext part of the name implies) the idea that files can contain references to other files whose selection will elicit additional transfer requests.

Search Engine

-          A web search engine is designed to search for information on the World Wide Web and FTP servers.
-           The search results are generally presented in a list of results and are often called hits. The information may consist of web pages, images, information and other types of files.
-          Some search engines also mine data available in databases or open directories.
-          Unlike web directories, which are maintained by human editors, search engines operate algorithmically or are a mixture of algorithmic and human input.

FIFO (First In First Out)
-
is an inventory costing method which assumes that the first items placed in inventory are the first sold
-          the inventory at the end of a year consists of the goods most recently placed in inventory.
-           is one method used to determine Cost of Goods Sold for a business .

LIFO (Last In Last Out)
-
inventory accounting in which the most recently acquired items are assumed to be the first sold.
-          assumes that an entity sells, uses or disposes of its newest inventory first. If an asset is sold for less than it is acquired for, then the difference is considered a capital loss. If an asset is sold for more than it is acquired for, the difference is considered a capital gain. Using the LIFO method to evaluate and manage inventory can be tax advantageous, but it may also increase tax liability.

Domain
-
The term domain can refer either to a local subnetwork or to descriptors for sites on the Internet.
-          On the Internet, a domain is part of every network address, including web site addresses, email addresses, and addresses for other Internet protocols such as FTP, IRC, and SSH. All devices sharing a common part of an address, or URL, are said to be in the same domain.

what is TCP/IP?
*      TCP/IP is an abbreviation for transmission control protocol, internet protocol
*      TCP is a loseless protocol, requiring a had shake to insure that data is not lost during transmission
*      Internet protocol(IP) use address which are a series four “octet”(bute)number in a dotted decimal notation
*      IP address are three classes:
Class A
Class B
Class C
Application protocol such as HTTP and FTP are based on and use TCP/IP
What is an address?
*      An address is name by which a computer can be called or reffenced. An address is also a location of a resource on a network

Ø  Is a uniform method of accesing and retrieving information on the internet
Using hyper text transfer protocol(http)
Information stored in a hierarchical fashion, using hypertext and hypermedia

Ø  Text with links to additional information about that text , hypertext fits very well into the hierarchical architecture of the www .
The first known use of hypertext is In the book of psalms.

What is hypermedia ?
Ø  The ability to display picture, video and sounds.

What is protocol ?
Ø  Method by which two computers agree to communicate.

What is an application protocol ?
Ø  An application protocol facilities communication between an application and server

Define how a client and server internet .
Ø  consists three point:
1.start up and shut down
2.makes and satisfied service requests
3.report errors
Ø
Common application protocol include :
Hhtp (hyper text transfer protocol)
ftp (files transfer protocol))
smtp(simple mail transfer protocol)
nntp(network news transfer protocol)
irc(internet relay chat)

what is TCP/IP?
Ø  TCP/IP is an abbreviation for transmission control protocol, internet protocol
TCP is a loseless protocol, requiring a had shake to insure that data is not lost during transmission
Internet protocol(IP) use address which are a series four “octet”(bute)number in a dotted decimal notation
Ø
IP address are three classes:
Class A
Class B
Class C
v  Application protocol such as HTTP and FTP are based on and use TCP/IP

What is an address?
Ø  An address is name by which a computer can be called or reffenced. An address is also a location of a resource on a network

What is a domain?
Ø  Logical grouping of computer on a network. It may include multiple network. It may also just be a subset of a network of computer. So domains can have subdomains

What is a domain home?
Ø  Just like people, domain need to have a names.A domains name on the internet has the following forms:
[subdomain].[subdomain].[subdomain].[…….] domain

What is a browser?
Ø  Graphical user interface (GUI) application program that retrieves and display document from web sites.
A  browser has the ability to render text and graphic in the browser window.
Ø  More specialfically it has the ability to :

DISPLAY
1.hypertext and hypermedia documents
2.text in different fonts, columns and sizes
3.foreign language characters sets conforming to the iso8859 starndard
4.form composed of text field , text widgets, buttons, check boxes. Etc.
5.graphic in different formats

INVOLCE
1.helper application
2.plug-ins

BROWSER  TYPES
Not all browser are created equally.the all have slightly different features

LEADING BROWSER
1.Microsoft Internet Explorer is by for the worlds mass popular browser.
2.other browser include NSCA Mosaic(the grandfather of most browser)
,Firefox,Konqueror,Netscape Navigator,Opera and lynx,a non-graphical browser.

basic component of computer

standalone computer

a computer that used on its own without requiring a connection to a local area network(LAN)or wide area network(WAN).Athough it may be connected to a network,it is still standalone computer as long as the network connection is not mandatory for its general use.........
