What is the internet ?

Ø  Is a global infrastructures that connects millions of computers

It uses existing public telephones and communication (including satellite) nework to internet include services such a gopher and ftp

What is the world wide web ?

Ø  Is a uniform method of accesing and retrieving information on the internet

Using hyper text transfer protocol(http)

Information stored in a hierarchical fashion,using hypertext and hypermedia

What is hypertext ?

Ø  Text with links to additional information about that text , hypertext fits very well into the hierarchical architecture of the www .

The first known use of hypertext is In the book of psalms.

What is hypermedia ?

Ø  The ability to display picture, video and sounds.

What is protocol ?

Ø  Method by which two computers agree to communicate.

What is an application protocol ?

Ø  An application protocol facilities communication between an application and server

TCP is a loseless protocol,requiring a had shake to insure that data is not lost during transmission

Internet protocol(IP) use address which are a series four “octet”(bute)number in a dotted decimal notation

What is an address?

Ø  An address is name by which a computer can be called or reffenced.An address is also a location of a resource on a network

What is a domain?

Ø  Logical grouping of computer on a network.It may include multiple network.It may also just be a subset of a network of computer.So domains can have subdomains

What is a domain home?

Ø  Just like people,domain need to have a names.A domains name on the internet has the following forms:

[subdomain].[subdomain].[subdomain].[…….] domain

What is a browser?

Ø  Graphical user interface (GUI) application program that retrieves and display document from web sites.

A  browser has the ability to render text and graphic in the browser window.

Ø  More specialfically it has the ability to :
